Junior Coaching

With over 100 juniors actively participating each week, our training squads run 7 days a week and cater for juniors starting as young as 5 years of age through to intervarsity college players. The purpose of the tennis academy is to deliver performance coaching and training to juniors looking to improve their technique and match play.   Tennis technique, court fitness, mental strength, and tactics are key pillars of the training program.

While the academy program is designed with ‘performance’ in mind, it also aims to make learning tennis a fun and socially rewarding experience and the long-tenure of existing students is testament to this underlying ethos.

There are several ‘tiers’ or levels within the academy program.  Examples include:

  • ‘Starter’ Squad  Level: Training once per week (1-2 hrs)

  • ‘League’ Squad  Level: Training twice per week (3-4 hrs)

  • ‘Tournament’ Squad 3 Level: Training 3 times per week (6 hrs)

There is also a range of group sessions each week for children of different ages and ability. The academy aims to cater for players of all levels – from beginner through to national tournament player. Steve personally assesses all students in order to make sure the right fit for each student.

Coaching Terms & Conditions

1. In case of bad weather, a text will be sent out via WhatsApp groups, there is no need to contact the coaches individually.

1 week of bad weather is factored into the cost each term. If more than that is cancelled the class will be made up or alternatives offered in the summer term.

2. If a player is sick or injured, please refrain from sending them to tennis. Players are expected to participate fully and we don't want any child to worsen their injury by playing when unfit to do so.

It can also be disruptive to the group when players are unable to participate in exercises. Tennis is a running sport, so it is expected in every class.

3. Please make sure that every player has appropriate tennis shoes and athletic wear to help prevent injuries.

Rain coats and warmer clothes are needed throughout the winter season.

Water is needed year-round, and sunscreen is needed through the summer in particular.

4. For Health and Safety reasons please text your child's coach if a child will be more than 10 minutes late, or is leaving early.
